Transition of leadership taking place between Mr. Ronald D. Southern and Nancy C. Southern is proving to be an effective process resulting in a seamless transfer of chief executive leadership for the years ahead.

Early positioning of ATCO Power with a highly skilled team to develop competitive independent power projects has allowed this company to capitalize on opportunities unfolding in North America. ATCO Power recently announced its 11th Canadian Plant.

Reorganized principal operating subsidiaries under five new business groups: Power Generation, Utilities, Logistics & Energy Services, Technologies and Industrials.

ATCO Frontec provided Canadian peacekeeping logistics support in Bosnia.

ATCO Pipelines completed the 116 kilometre Muskeg River pipeline project.

ATCO Gas completed the sale of Viking-Kinsella natural gas properties for $550 million.

» 2002
ATCO Structures provided temporary accommodations for more than 2,000 security personnel protecting the G8 Summit of world leaders in Kananaskis, Alberta.

» 2003
ATCO Power opened its emission-free, 32 megawatt Oldman River hydroelectric generating facility. It is ATCO Power's first hydroelectric project and its first electricity generating facility in southern Alberta.

The ATCO Tyrrell Learning Centre at the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller was officially opened, offering technically-advanced educational programming opportunities to schools and communities across Alberta.

» 2004
ATCO's partner, Tecno Fast in South America, was awarded the $15 million Veladero Mining Project.

Torngait Services Inc., a joint venture between ATCO Frontec and the Labrador Inuit Development Corporation, announced the award of a $23 million contract to provide the permanent accommodation facility for Voisey's Bay Nickel Company's mine and concentrator operation in Labrador.

ATCO Group and Direct Energy Marketing Limited (DEML) announced that they have closed the previously announced transfer of the retail energy supply businesses of ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric to DEML. ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric will continue to own and operate the natural gas and electricity distribution systems that are used to deliver energy and will continue to provide emergency response to more than 500 communities in Alberta.

ARCTEC Alaska, a joint venture between ATCO Frontec and Arctic Slope World Services, was selected by the United States Air Force to manage and maintain the Alaska Radar System for up to 10 years.

Brighton Beach Power L.P., a limited partnership formed by ATCO Power Ltd and Ontario Power Generation (OPG), opened its 580 megawatt combined cycle gas fired power plant located in Windsor, Ontario.

ATCO Group celebrated Alberta’s Centennial with two major province-wide programs – a historic traveling exhibit and a unique Centennial travel passport - designed to celebrate the province’s history and capture the Alberta spirit.

ATCO Electric was the first Canadian company to take home the international Edison Award, with their Alberta transmission line project honoured for “leadership and innovation”.

ATCO Structures was awarded a $9.7 million contract to build an innovative athletes housing complex for the first-ever Canada Winter Games to be staged “North of 60°."

ATCO Noise Management acquired Higgott-Kane Industrial Noise Controls Ltd., a North American market leader in the supply of custom engineered silencing systems to power and process industries.

» 2006
ATCO Group continued to support Canadian athletes by providing people, products and services as an Official Supplier to the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

ATCO Frontec provided Real Life Support Services to a major NATO training exercise in Africa where military personnel from 11 countries will exercise the strategic deployment of the NATO Response Force.  ATCO Frontec provided camp support services, transportation, fresh food supplements, potable water supply, and waste treatment at several national and multi-national NATO camps established on three separate islands in the Republic of Cape Verde off the west coast of Africa.

ATCO Structures received a contract to manufacture, supply and install the all-inclusive Albian Village accommodations for trades people and management personnel at Shell’s Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP) Upstream Expansion #1 north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.  Accommodating 2,460 people, Albian Village features a 115,000 square foot core building containing a gymnasium, running track, workout facility, lounge, lecture hall, dining area, and plus-15 elevated corridors.

» 2007
ATCO Frontec was awarded its first-ever contract with the United Nations to provide camp support and food services to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.  ATCO Frontec delivered support services at several camps in Kosovo, used by members of international military police units serving with the mission.

ATCO Structures was contracted by Manitoba Hydro, on behalf of the Wuskwatim Power Limited Partnership, to design, manufacture, transport, and install workforce housing to accommodate the 624 people required to build the $1.2 billion Wuskwatim Generating Station in Northern Manitoba.

ATCO Power announced plans to build a second natural gas-fired power plant in Valleyview, Alberta. The 45 megawatt (MW) "peaking" facility is an important addition to meet Alberta’s growing power requirements and is the eighth environmentally progressive power generating facility built by ATCO Power in the province since 1999.
