1940 - 1950

  • S.D. and R.D. Southern commenced business under the name of Alberta Trailer Hire with the purchase of 15 utility trailers for hire in the Calgary area.

​1950 - 1960

  • Alberta Trailer Company imported the first U.S. mobile homes to Canada for sale to the public. Industrial housing manufacturing operations commenced in Edmonton on a partnership basis under the name of Roadway Industries.

  • ATCO completed its first export order with the shipment of equipment to Alaska. As a result, Northland Camps Inc. was incorporated as the first non-Canadian ATCO company.

  • The first large overseas contract was obtained to supply housing for the Mangla Dam project in Pakistan.
