Mutually Beneficial Relationships

Wherever possible, ATCO works to build mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal communities by developing strategies that provide appropriate opportunities to improve employment and business relations.

In northern/Aboriginal communities such as Inuvik, Yellowknife, Resolute, Cambridge Bay, Hall Beach, Iqaluit and Goose Bay, ATCO has established extensive training and hiring programs.

For example, at Norquest College, ATCO contributes to programs that assist aboriginal students achieve work place success.

ATCO supports The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), an organization dedicated to promoting the full participation of Aboriginal communities in the Canadian economy, as well as the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation (NAAF).

Nasittuq Corporation acts as the agent for a joint venture between ATCO Frontec Corporation and Pan Arctic Inuit Logistics to operate and maintain Canada’s North Warning System. The landmark agreement includes enhanced training programs designed to benefit the Inuit from Labrador, Nunavik, Nunavut and the Inuvialuit Settlement Regions.

ATCO Frontec, ATCO Midstream, ATCO Structures, and the Michael R. Shaw Outdoor Development Foundation sponsored the 5th Annual Inuvialuit Development Corporation (IDC) Outward Bound Leadership Expedition in July, which provided wilderness programming for young people within the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.

The goal of this program is development of skills in the areas of teamwork and personal life management, increase self confidence and resilience, and foster a sense of responsibility for one’s actions — the hallmarks of strong leadership.
