  ATCO Power

ATCO Power is a world-class developer, construction manager, owner and operator of technologically advanced and environmentally progressive independent power generation plants. ATCO Power operates 20 power plants in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia with a combined capacity of about 4,970 megawatts (MW). ASHCOR Technologies markets coal combustion products from ATCO Power’s coal-fired generating stations in Alberta.

ATCO Power’s largest plants in Alberta, both coal-fired, are the 670 MW Battle River Generating Station and the 760 MW Sheerness Generating Station. The output from these two plants is sold under long-term power purchase arrangements.

ATCO Power’s other major assets are independent power generation plants:

  • Scotford Cogeneration Plant (170MW) supplies steam and power to the Scotford Upgrader located near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
  • Muskeg River Cogeneration Plant (170 MW) supplies steam and power to the Muskeg River Mine near Fort McMurray, Alberta.
  • Joffre Cogeneration Plant (480 MW) supports NOVA Chemicals with power and steam at their Joffre petrochemical site in Alberta.
  • Cory Cogeneration Plant (260 MW) near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan supplies steam to the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan and electricity to SaskPower Corporation.
  • Brighton Beach Generating Station (580 MW, natural gas-fired) in Windsor, Ontario sells all of the output from the plant under a long-term energy conversion agreement with Coral Energy Canada, an affiliate of Shell Trading.
  • Barking Combined-Cycle Generating Plant (1,000 MW, natural gas-fired) near east London is the company’s principal asset in the U.K. ATCO Power operates the plant through its Thames Power subsidiary.
  • The principal asset in Australia is a joint venture that owns and operates the Osborne Cogeneration Plant (180 MW) near Adelaide.

ATCO Power commissioned its 20th facility in Karratha, Western Australia, in 2010. The 86 MW natural gas-fired station supplies electricity to residential and business consumers under a long-term power purchase arrangement.

ATCO Power is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities where economic advantage can be gained from existing infrastructure and on projects with long-term power purchase arrangements.
