Making a difference in the communities we serve
For more than 100 years, ATCO companies have been providing energy and other services to Albertans, demonstrating the “can-do spirit” that has made this province a great place to live.
While ATCO itself was founded in 1947, some of our companies date back to the turn of the century. ATCO Gas began providing service to Albertans in 1912 – the first year of the Calgary Stampede. ATCO Electric, which was known in its early years as Canadian Utilities, began in Vegreville in 1927.
Since that time, we have grown. With nine principal companies operating under the ATCO Group banner and operations worldwide, we now employ more than 9,000 people.
The majority of our employees live, work and volunteer in more than 350 communities across Alberta; from Milk River in the south, High Level in the north, Lloydminister in the east and Jasper in the west.
Our commitment to excellence in business is matched by our commitment to the communities we serve. ATCO supports hundreds of community endeavours through financial contributions and the volunteer efforts of our employees. From our volunteer firefighters to our sponsorship of the Alberta Games and the Calgary Stampede, as well as our ongoing support for post secondary institutions and numerous health and wellness programs, ATCO is striving to create and sustain healthy, vibrant communities.
This past year alone, ATCO and its employees pledged more than $3.8 million dollars in our annual EPIC campaign. The employee-led fundraising campaign directly benefits charities across the province.
We have been here through the good times, and most importantly through the tough times, always with our people making a difference.
We are proud of our history and proud to call Alberta home.
