Powerline PhotoWe’re always looking to improve the lives of our customers and make energy easy for the communities we have the privilege to serve. That’s why we’ve partnered with the City of Lloydminster on an exciting LED Conversion and Intelligent Street Lighting Pilot Project.

This is a small project with a big impact. By improving the light fixtures along a main artery through the community, the City can reduce energy consumption and improve driver safety. The new technology will allow for remote monitoring and control of lights, as well as dimming based on motion sensors and time of day.

Plus, the project also benefits the environment. Because artificial light at night can have negative impacts on amphibians, birds, insects and plants, minimizing unnecessary light pollution is important. Our LEDs have a correlated colour temperature of 3,000K, which is recommended by the International Dark Sky Association to provide minimal glare and reduce effects on wildlife.

Other benefits to LED lighting include:

  • Long-term energy and cost savings
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
  • Less maintenance

The installation of these new lights and the intelligent lighting system will be completed by the end of November 2017, with the pilot phase of the intelligent street light technology continuing through to April 2018.
