VIP CentreThousands of energy industry professionals have descended on Calgary for the 50th annual Global Petroleum Show (GPS). As a platinum-level sponsor, we will once again be there to showcase our global brand, focusing on our industrial and commercial energy solutions at our ATCOenergy booth.

We will also be promoting our integrated business capabilities out of the ATCO Global Petroleum Club, a VIP Lounge that hosts world leaders from across the globe. The 6,000-sq. ft., 9-unit modular structure is a VIP Centre where key industry leaders can network, relax, and discuss critical energy issues like pipelines, Indigenous engagement, rising oil prices and disruptive technologies.

History of GPS

It’s been five decades since the first Global Petroleum Show got underway at Stampede Park.  During that time, lucrative petroleum field operations from the oil boom were being followed up by pipeline construction, gas plants and other developments.  The petroleum industry was quickly assuming its role as key industry in Alberta, and so the Canadian Petroleum Exposition was born.

For six days, nearly $20 million worth of equipment filled the grounds of Stampede Park. Much of that equipment was ATCO’s – from the simple trailer used to store field equipment and modular trailers for workforce accommodation to wellsite offices and helicopter transportable camps. All were proudly on display at the 1966 inaugural exhibition. Two years later, it became known as the Global Petroleum Show, and we have proudly participated in every conference since.

Today, the show still takes place on Stampede Park and is now recognized as North American's largest exhibition and conference covering the entire oil and gas supply chain. The three-day event features 2,000 exhibiting companies, where over 63,000 government officials, industry professionals, and energy companies from around the world gather to share, discuss and engage. The event also includes 64 technical sessions, three keynote presentations, C-Suite Dialogues and seven business sessions.

As our company has developed and grown with Canada’s petroleum industry, so too has the Global Petroleum Show. The evolution of the industry is reflected in how the exhibition today puts a keen focus on Indigenous roles, responsible production and the current geopolitical environment of the energy industry.

ATCO is honoured to be part of this discussion and to be celebrating Global Petroleum Show’s monumental 50th anniversary.
