ATCO welcomes Emerging Aboriginal Leaders Program applicants

ATCO is delighted to welcome 12 applicants this year to the second Emerging Aboriginal Leaders Program with the WA Aboriginal Leadership Institute (WAALI).

The program was established by WAALI in 2019, to develop the leadership qualities of Aboriginal young people in a culturally focused way and is proudly supported by ATCO.

President of ATCO’s Gas Division, Stevan Green said ATCO is thrilled to again be part of this exciting program with WAALI, and we look forward to seeing these young people grow as individuals and leaders in the future.

This year 12 applicants were successful and were offered places in the program, this includes four young men and nine young women; of which two police officers, who were selected by WA Police to participate, two participants supported by their employer (a university and a mining company) to participate, some traveling as far as Mandurah each week to participate, others are students, trainees, and two who are relatives of past graduates.

WAALI CEO Anjie Brook said this year’s participants are an incredible group of individuals.

“It is fantastic to see this program grow, even in a short time of being established. And to have some of our 2019 Program alumni offering to help facilitate and mentor participants is fantastic,” she said.

“They all have strong cultural family links and we have a few incredible cultural dancers too.”

The 10-week program covers topics such as cultural identity, connecting with elders, self-awareness, self-development, financial wellbeing and leadership development goals and ends with an on-country experience.

Community Investment & Partnerships Manager Jayne Scriven said it is fantastic to see such a culturally rich leadership program grow from strength to strength.

“It all started with an idea over email, and it has now eventuated into this wonderful program,” Jayne said.

“It was an honour to be able to launch another successful program on Wednesday and welcome in 13 applicants to their first day of your program together.”

The students will graduate from the course at the end of November in a special celebration ceremony to be held at ATCO’s Jandakot Operations Centre.
