Our Facilities

Our Facilities

From the Oldman River Hydroelectric Plant in Alberta to the Karratha Power Station in Western Australia, we energize communities like no other company in the world.

With a focus on operational excellence and a steadfast commitment to sustainability, we leverage decades of experience and industry leading expertise in developing, building and operating independent power generation facilities.

ATCO’s Generation division was established in 1988 to pursue independent power projects worldwide. Since then, we’ve established ourselves in Canada, Australia, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

ATCO owns and operates two power plants in Australia, which are located in Western Australia and South Australia.

Karratha Power Station

Karratha Power Station

Commissioned in 2010, the 86MW Karratha Power Station is one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly power generation facility in the North West Interconnected System in the Pilbara. The facility generates electricity to supply residential and business consumers under a long-term power off take contract with Horizon Power. The ATCO team can take pride in the fact that the project was completed within budget and meets all performance guarantee requirements including output, heat rate, noise and nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions.

Osborne Cogeneration Facility

Osborne Cogeneration Facility

A 50:50 joint venture between ATCO Power Australia and Origin Energy, the 180MW Osborne plant is located near Adelaide. Osborne sells its electrical output under a long-term power purchase agreement to Origin. The plant’s design accommodates operating in both cogeneration and combined cycle modes. The facility is fuelled by natural gas from South Australia’s Cooper basin and operated by ATCO Power Australia.
