ATCO Projects

ATCO has more than 75 years' experience in the planning and development of projects of all sizes and scales. From planning and advice, to engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), ATCO has the expertise to see your project through from start to completion.

Deerfoot Solar

As ATCO continues to make strides in renewable energy, the Deerfoot solar project exhibits the transition to sustainable energy for the people of Calgary and provides customers with sustainable energy alternatives.

The Deerfoot solar project covers 99 hectares of former limited-use industrial land in Southeast Calgary, Alberta, and consists of 100,000 solar panels with a generating capacity of 41 MW (megawatts). The project produces enough power annually to power over 9,500 homes and offset 37,000 tonnes of carbon.

Oldman River Hydro

The Oldman River Hydro facility is a run-of-river hydro plant and a vital source of renewable energy, offering reliable baseload generation to the Alberta Electric System via the Altalink transmission connection. The project, located on the Oldman River north of Pincher Creek, Alberta, consists of two Francis turbines, two 16 MW GE Generators, a substation, step-up transformer, riparian, and bypass valve arrangement. The project produces 32 MW of power annually, enough to power more than 25,000 homes.

Atlas Carbon Storage Hub

The Atlas Carbon Sequestration Hub will be a multi-phased open access hub developed, owned, and operated in a partnership between Shell Canada and ATCO EnPower. The hub proposes to offer customers in the area with transportation and sequestration services for their CO2 emissions.

Craig Lake Wind

The Craig Lake Wind project is proposed as an estimated 246 MW (megawatt) / 815 GWh (gigawatt hours) wind power project in East Central Alberta, Canada. ATCO EnPower and its affiliate, ATCO Renewables Ltd. (ATCO), acquired the lease agreements for the project lands from Suncor Energy Inc. in January 2023. We are continuing with the project planning and development.

Hand Hills Hybrid

The Hand Hills Hybrid project is proposed as an estimated 180 MW (megawatt) wind power and 120 MW solar power facility. ATCO Renewables Ltd. (ATCO EnPower) acquired the lease agreements for the project lands from Suncor Energy Inc. in January 2023, and we are continuing with the planning and development of the project.
Solar Panels

Forty Mile Solar

The Forty Mile Solar project consists of 59 power blocks each with an inverter transformer station, array of solar panels, racking and piles. A total of 513,422 bifacial solar modules will be installed. The project is located on 692 hectares of privately-owned land in southeast Alberta, in the County of Forty Mile No.8. The project has a generating capacity of 220 MWAC (megawatts alternating current) of energy.

Barlow Battery Energy Storage System

The proposed Barlow Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project will be located on approximately 0.5 hectares (ha) of land within the Barlow Solar Park site, in the City of Calgary at 11111 Barlow Trail SE (SE 16-23-29 W4M). The project will consist of approximately 22 modular battery energy storage units installed on the east side of the Barlow Solar Park site on previously disturbed land. The project will be charged with electricity generated by ATCO?s Barlow Solar Park and electricity supplied from the Alberta Interconnected Electric System and will have a capacity of 21.5 MW (megawatts).

Mtis Crossing Solar

On August 2, 2022, the Mtis Nation of Alberta (MNA) announced plans to proceed with the construction phase of the Mtis Crossing Solar Project (MCSP), a community generation solar project located in Smoky Lake County at Mtis Crossing, a signature cultural destination of the MNA.

Grande Prairie Transit Solar

ATCO had the opportunity to support the City of Grande Prairie's Community Sustainability Master Plan through the completion of several important clean energy projects.
Forty Mile Wind

Phase 1 - Forty Mile Wind

Phase 1 of the Forty Mile wind project consists of 45 5.0 MW (megawatt) wind turbines, located on 64,000 acres of privately-owned farmland in southeastern Alberta, in the County of Forty Mile No.8. The Siemens SG 5.0-145 IIB turbines have a 107.5 m (metre) hub height and 71 m long blades. The project has a generating capacity of 202 MW of energy.

Empress Solar

The Empress solar project covers 280 acres south of the village of Empress, Alberta, and consists of 89,000 solar panels with a generating capacity of 38.5 MW (megawatts). The project produces enough power annually to power over 11,000 homes and offset 43,000 tonnes of carbon.
