LUMA Iluminando Pasos

  • LUMA lights the way for children and youth in Puerto Rico

Helping Puerto Rican children and youth prepare for emergencies and supporting students to pursue their dreams through higher education are just a few of the ways LUMA Energy is giving back to the island’s communities through its LUMA Iluminando Pasos program, which translates to Illuminating Steps.

With LUMA’s mission to restore and operate the electricity system in Puerto Rico, the company is focusing its community giving on energizing the next generation of youth through education and wellness, economic development and recovery and energy stewardship.

LUMA’s two community partners are the American Red Cross Puerto Rico chapter and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR). These partnerships reflect LUMA’s belief that when the island’s communities thrive, everyone benefits.

LUMA will support the BGCPR’s program that provides participants access to and readiness for higher education and psychosocial support with the goal of moving a child from poverty into self-sufficiency.

Through the Red Cross’s disaster preparedness programs for children, LUMA will help the next generation of youth to be more prepared for future emergencies and empower them with the tools and knowledge they need to become more resilient in their communities.

LUMA, headquartered in San Juan, was formed by ATCO and Quanta Services, to rebuild and operate Puerto Rico’s electricity system.
