• LUMA is Training the Next Generation of Puerto Rico’s Lineworkers

The health and safety of our people and communities is a value shared across our enterprise. As part of this commitment, LUMA, our new company formed together with Quanta Services, will open a state-of-the-art lineworkers college in Puerto Rico–raising the standard of safety and training for LUMA employees and contributing to a safer electricity system for all.

The LUMA College for Technical Training will be an accredited campus of the Northwest Lineman College (NLC), which currently has four campuses across the United States and trains more than 8,000 students each year. The college will provide a customized curriculum for the Puerto Rican workforce.

LUMA is now recruiting students from across Puerto Rico to be part of the first cohort of trainees. This smaller class, made up of about five students, will receive scholarships to complete their training at NLC's Florida campus. LUMA plans to break ground on its Puerto Rico campus in the coming months, and is looking forward to welcoming the first full class of 32 students at the Puerto Rico campus in February 2021.
