We?ve long championed the development of hydroelectric infrastructure in Canada and around the world. As a crucial source of clean electricity that provides dependable baseload generation, we view hydroelectric power as an essential component of the renewable energy mix for the future. We take pride in leading the energy transition with the Veracruz Hydro Station and Oldman River Hydro Plant, which together contribute 67 MW to ATCO EnPower?s renewable energy portfolio. In late 2017, ATCO EnPower acquired Electricidad del Golfo (EGO) Hydro, along with its 35 megawatt (MW) hydroelectric power station located in Veracruz, Mexico. The energy produced at this facility powers over 200 convenience stores with renewable electricity. Discover more about our operations in Mexico.
The Oldman River Hydro Plant is a 32 megawatt (MW) run-of-river project situated in southern Alberta, which was commissioned in 2002. This facility is a partnership between ATCO EnPower and the Piikani Nation, one of the 35 Indigenous partnerships we are proud to cultivate across Canada. The energy generated here serves the needs of up to 25,000 households.
