2018 Project Updates
August 23: We received a development permit for the Kneehill 1 project from Kneehill County.
April 13: We have received approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission to construct and operate
ATCO and Samsung C&T are planning to build and operate a 25 megawatt (MW) solar power generation facility located approximately 2.5 km northwest of Three Hills, Alberta. The project has the potential to generate approximately 44,000 megawatt hours (MWh) annually, which is enough to power approximately 6,000 households on average.
The Project Partners: ATCO and Samsung C&T
The partnership between ATCO and Samsung C&T leverages the capabilities and experience of both companies in the development, construction and operation of solar projects to best serve Alberta’s needs.
ATCO has decades of experience and industry-leading expertise in developing, building and operating independent power generation facilities. This includes five power generation plants with 241 MW capacity; 87,000 km of electric powerlines; 220 substations; over 300 telecommunication sites; more than 30 small power plants in isolated communities and a system operations centre.
Samsung C&T has extensive experience developing solar facilities and other generation projects around the world. This includes two 100 MW solar projects in Ontario, which represent some of the largest solar facilities in Canada, each powering more than 17,000 Canadian homes.
