Resilience & Safety

Our Approach

Keeping members of the public, our employees and contractors safe is our first priority as we provide the reliable and affordable energy that customers and communities depend on. From emergency preparedness and response, to grid modernization, cybersecurity and well-being programs, we proactively work to build resilience in the people we depend on and the systems we operate.

Our focus on infrastructure resiliency includes strategies such as evolving design specifications, selecting line routes for safety and resilience, regular maintenance and inspections, and asset insurance. Grid modernization also ensures we will continue to meet our customers? needs into the future through approaches such as distributed power generation and real-time monitoring and response with smart meters.

We take a proactive approach to emergency preparedness and response. We track risks, such as extreme weather, so we are ready to respond when called upon. Our organization-wide approach to emergency response provides oversight and guidance across our businesses and operations. After incidents, we debrief to learn how we can improve.

ATCO is also available to help others when disaster strikes. We provide disaster and emergency management services around the globe, partnering with governments, first responders and militaries to respond to catastrophic events.

Whether assisting in emergency response or completing our everyday work, we foster a strong safety culture with our employees and contractors. Our goal is an injury-free workplace. Along with physical safety, we prioritize psychological safety and wellness, with programs, training and support across the organization.
