ATCO Community Programs

The Blue Flame Kitchen

The ATCO Gas Blue Flame Kitchen Schools Program is an engaging and interactive program designed for students in years five and six. The free school excursion opportunity provides students with a range of hands on and real world learning opportunities in our purpose-built demonstration kitchen, which includes familiar gas appliances like a stove, conventional oven and pizza oven, as well as an alfresco edible garden.

ATCO Equipment Loaner Program

ATCO supports the community by offering a variety of special event equipment free-of-charge for community event organisers. By using our loaner equipment, ATCO seeks to help event organisers reduce their rental costs with equipment that supports a successful event.

The donation of “equipment in-kind” can be made in lieu of, or in combination with, a cash sponsorship or as part of an employee volunteer effort.

EON-Sml-Header.jpg

EON Foundation

ATCO is partnering with EON Foundation to help deliver their Thriving Communities Program to Western Australia’s Mid-West.

This transformative program is a hands-on, grassroots initiative aimed at developing extensive, edible gardens in remote schools and communities. It also equips both students and adults with the skills to nurture, harvest, and prepare their own nourishing food.

Garnering remarkable success throughout remote Western Australia, this program has seen dedicated EON employees reach out to over 24 isolated communities and conduct 878 informative sessions on healthy eating. The program encompasses three fundamental pillars: fostering knowledge on gardening and harvesting from these bountiful gardens, promoting healthy eating habits among children, and offering educational and training opportunities for adults.

Partnering with the EON Foundation on this initiative enables ATCO to embody our dedication to fostering healthy, sustainable, and thriving communities. Through our support, EON Foundation will see the successful completion of the five-year Program across three key Mid-Western communities: Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, and Yalgoo.

Kidsafe WA

ATCO is a proud partner of Kidsafe WA, a not-for-profit organisation that is focused on promoting safety and preventing childhood injuries and accidents.

Over the past six years, ATCO’s partnership with Kidsafe WA has continued to showcase a successful model in promoting child injury prevention and gas safety messages to the Western Australian community. As part of the partnership, ATCO provides a range of useful and informative gas safety resources to the Kidsafe WA demonstration house in West Leederville, which is open to the WA community. Travelling with Kidsafe WA to regional primary schools to deliver incursions that support these important messages, we team up to educate our young people on the importance of safety in, and around, the home.

This partnership aligns closely with our own mission to foster safe and prosperous communities in Australia, and we are proud to be supporting the safety of the wider WA community.

Cockburn Integrated Health

Now in its fourth year, ATCO is proudly partnering with Cockburn Integrated Health (CIH) to contribute to the success of the Cockburn Healthy Schools Program.

In 2017, CIH initiated the Cockburn Healthy Lifestyle Service (CHLS), an initiative offering free or low-cost nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being services to adults within the City of Cockburn. Recognising a gap in prevention services for overweight and obesity in school-aged children, CIH later launched the Cockburn Healthy Schools Program (CHSP) in 2017 to address this critical issue.

The nutrition education lessons provided through the CHSP work synergistically with our Blue Flame Kitchen Healthy Meals Program here at ATCO. This aligns with our mission to advocate for healthy eating, safe cooking at home and food & energy security, especially among our younger generations. By imparting evidence-based nutrition knowledge acquired through the CHSP, and connecting local schools with the Blue Flame Kitchen, students transfer classroom learning into practical applications while developing essential skills to foster healthier home environments.

Foodbank-Sml-Header.jpg

Foodbank WA

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing more than 70% of the food rescued for food relief organisations nation-wide. ATCO is proudly partnering with Foodbank WA to support their Learn.Cook.Share for Youth Program, designed for young people aged 12 to 18.

This program improves participants’ skills, knowledge and confidence to make affordable and healthy food choices. Over four weeks, participants are inspired through activities, engaging discussions, and group-based cooking.  Resources and support provided by the experts ensure that young people walk away armed with the knowledge they need to make healthy choices.

Each weekly two-hour session includes hands-on nutrition activities and discussions, a knife and kitchen safety demonstration- including how to read a recipe, cooking skills demonstration, and cooking in groups to prepare for a shared meal together.

This program aligns seamlessly with ATCO’s mission to foster healthy, sustainable and prosperous communities across Australia. It also shares similar goals to our own Blue Flame Kitchen Healthy Meals Program, which teaches children in years 5 and 6 how to prepare, cook and share nutritious and delicious food that they can then replicate when they get home.
